FOOTPATHS - OWNERS' NOTE "The walks around the countryside at Tregunstis House have made life here even more special. From the track, just below the farmhouse, you join a public footpath which follows a stream through the wooded valley to Polanguy. From here there are shorter circular walks home across neighbouring fields or you can keep going along footpaths to Gweek. In the spring the woodland is filled with bluebells, and we love to wander down the path to sit in the little oak tree glen at the edge of the stream which is just a couple of minutes from the house. It has an ancient appeal too - further down the path is the ruined chapel site of Merther Uny - with its ancient celtic cross dating to 1302. Keep going and you come to the neolithic standing stone at Tolvan Cross. If you get as far as Gweek, fish and chip Wednesdays at the water's edge or a pint at the Black Swan are worth the hill climb back up to Tregunstis House! We haven't tried it yet, but you can also walk from Tregunstis House to Constantine on a public footpath across farmland the whole way which I imagine has some fabulous views to the sea".

The vision for this cluster of farm buildings is to create an exclusive farmstead, sympathetic to the magical setting where the farmhouse will naturally be enhanced as the project unfolds and the surroundings evolve into something even more special. The plan is for a simple design with Scandinavian influence using beautiful materials and careful landscaping aided by Chloe's sister, Sadie May Stowell a gold medal award winning garden designer.

Providing privacy both ways will be central to the carefully considered planting scheme that will form part of the overarching plan. To the south of the currently rough garden area and pole rail fence - a bank of native hedgerow trees and shrubs are being planted to screen the barns and hard landscaping/turning area that won't obscure far reaching views - the elevated position of the farmhouse will allow an 8' foot hedge to grow and mask the immediate foreground including hawthorn, elder, holly and gorse. In the troughs in front of the farmhouse garden a variety of evergreen shrubs are to be planted - including oleaster, hebe and viburnum - selected to give privacy to the height of the barn wall but not exceed roof height thus providing a foliage screen 'wall' to look beyond to the views. Rambling roses will be planted to obscure the roofs of the lean to agricultural sheds immediately in front of the farmhouse garden.

Chris and Chloe's vision is to create a beautiful enclave of buildings with a unique character, each having individual seclusion with the benefit of neighbourly vicinity and access to the far reaching surroundings and outlook.
